Eligibility

Veterans must have been honorably discharged from the U.S. Armed Services after active duty during one of the periods of wartime listed below.

Proof of service, such as a copy of a DD 214, is required.

Veterans must have been a Warren County resident at the time he or she entered the service, or be a current resident of Warren County. In the case of posthumous recognition, the veteran must have been a County resident either when he or she entered the service or at the time of his or her death.

Wartime Eras

World War I – on or after 1/1/1917 and must have begun on or before 12/31/1918.

World War II – on or after 9/16/1940 and must have begun on or before 12/31/1946.

Korean Conflict – on or after 6/23/1950 and must have begun on or before 1/31/1955.

Vietnam Conflict – on or after 12/31/1960 and must have begun on or before 5/7/1975.

Veterans who served in the military during peacekeeping missions in Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, Arabian Peninsula/Persian Gulf, Somalia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Haiti, and Afghanistan are eligible if the following conditions are met:

• They served for at least 14 days on active duty or served at least one day on active duty and received a service-incurred injury or disability; and
• The service was in the geographic area or on a ship patrolling the territorial waters of the nation, or in the airspace over Bosnia or Herzegovina; and
• The period of service was within the time periods listed below:

Lebanon Crisis – on or after 7/1/1958 and must have begun on or before 11/1/1958.

Lebanon Peacekeeping Mission – on or after 9/26/1982 and must have begun on or before 12/1/1987.

Grenada – on or after 10/23/1983 and must have begun on or before 11/31/1983.

Panama – on or after 12/20/1989 and must have begun on or before 1/31/1990.

Iraq/Arabian Peninsula/Persian Gulf (includes “Operation Iraqi Freedom”) – on or after 8/2/1990 to present.

Somalia – on or after 12/5/1992 and must have begun on or before 3/31/1994.

Bosnia and Herzegovina – on or after 11/20/1995 to 6/20/1998.

Haiti – on or after 9/19/1994 and just have begun on or before 3/31/1995.

Afghanistan (“Enduring Freedom”) – on or after 9/11/2001 to present.
